01-10-2024 12:00 01-10-2024 13:00 Europe/Madrid What role do libraries play in the book sector? What role do public libraries play in the book chain? How should they converse with authors, publishers and bookshops? What is its space at a commercial event such as the Madrid Book Fair? Public libraries are often largely forgotten in the book ecosystem. Authors and publishers think first of bookshops to organise their book presentations, talks and workshops. However, bookshops and libraries are not adversaries; nothing could be further from the truth. The two spaces must converse and cooperate to present themselves as heterogeneous but complementary alternatives for the dissemination of literature and encounters with it. Libraries need to recover their presence in the book chain and not restrict themselves to being the final repositories for copies. They must be active and attractive agents for authors and readers.
